Expert Workshop on the Employment Dimension of the Green Economy

On 27 June 2025, an expert workshop on The Employment Dimension of the Green Economy: Assessment, New Metrics, and Evidence on Green Jobs in the EU was held in Brussels and online via Teams.

The event was organised by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion (DG EMPL) in collaboration with the Joint Research Centre (JRC), as part of the project “The Employment Dimension of the Green Economy – Measuring Green Jobs (GreenJobs)”.

EGRUiEN researchers took part in the workshops. Representing the University of Parma, Fabio Landini presented “A review of alternative measures to green employment”, while Marta Fana contributed with “A proposal to the estimation of green employment using firm-level data”.

Building on the outcomes of the first workshop held in September 2024, this second meeting aimed to advance discussions on employment in the context of the green transition. Experts explored the latest research, innovative methodologies, and policy approaches to measuring green employment, with a focus on revising indicators and developing new tools to capture the evolving labour market.

Presentations covered topics such as alternative measures of green employment, firm-level data analyses, and methodologies based on online job advertisements. The workshop also provided a forum for experts to debate the policy implications of these new approaches for EU employment strategies.
