DeCrises and EGRUiEN to host the second early-career researcher seminar
On 23–24 March, the University of Jyväskylä will host the second early-career researcher seminar organised by the Horizon Europe projects DeCrises and EGRUiEN.
Held biannually, this event offers an excellent opportunity for early-career researchers from these two projects to reflect on their research from interdisciplinary perspectives and to gain valuable input on potential theoretical and methodological developments.
During this seminar, the early-career researchers will present their papers and receive insightful comments from their peers, as well as constructive feedback from senior researchers and professors affiliated with the DeCrises and EGRUiEN projects.

From the EGRUiEN's end, the event will be attended by the JYU researchers: prof. Nathan Lillie, doctoral students Sangeeth Sugathan and Sarah Tornberg, LUT team: Dr. Ilona Bontenbal and doctoral student Zamzam Elmi, as well as DeCrises JYU team: Senior Lecturer Farid Karimi, prof. Tapio Litmanen, doctoral students Mashiur Rahman and Giga Mukutadze, DeCrises LUT team: Associate prof. Matti Kojo, Dr. Rodrigo Santaella-Gonçalves, doctoral student Paul Arteaga.
The 2nd Horizon Joint Early-Career Research Seminar will bring doctoral students and their supervisors together to discuss and improve doctoral students’ article drafts. The articles are at different stages so fruitful discussion are anticipated regarding academic writing, methods and publishing options. Each doctoral researcher will have 10 to 15 minutes to present their drafts, which had been distributed among participants prior to the seminar meeting. Each presentation will be followed with an hour of discussion, comments and questions to the presenter.
During the seminar meeting, researchers and supervisors from two Horizon Europe projects and three universities will discuss various research topics related to twin transition, workplace negotiations, multi-level governance and just transition. These will be examined in the contexts of case studies, such as Zamzam Elmi’s article on Valmet Automotive, and in broader macro-level, such as Giga Mukutadze’s research on how the European Union’s multi-level governance systems enable or constraint bottom-up actors’ participation in the green transition. There will be also literature reviews conducted by Paul Arteaga on data governance research and Mashiur Rahman on the EU regulations and academic articles regarding EU multi-level governance of the twin transition. The supervisors will provide with constructive criticism, useful literature and guidance with choosing relevant academic journals for publishing, backed with their strong expertise in social sciences, sociology, public policy and political science. The next seminar meeting will be organized in the fall of 2026 to further foster academic cooperation between the EGRUiEN and DeCrises projects.
